Sunday Night

Well what an adventure getting here . . . after a few missed turns by the lead bus we made it safely up to Hume Lake.
This year there is a new worship band called Campaign. They led a fantastic opening worship. We're looking forward to a Spirit filled week.
This week's speaker is Chris Brown who is one of the pastors at North Coast church in Vista. (Chris used to be the campus pastor at Azusa Pacific University.) He started our journey into God's word and the book of Daniel with an adventure story . . . he's kind of ADD (his label) but kept everyone's attention. A lot of the students are looking forward to hear him speak each evening.
The opener was amazing. This year it was held out at the pond (behind Meadow Ranch - the middle school camp). The setting was a peasant village that ended up being sieged by Vikings. Mandy Klem (one of the Hume staff from Saint Matthew) was one of the peasants and Aaron Davidson (one of the Hume staff also from Saint Matthew) shot flaming arrows at the Viking long boat. It was awesome. All of our students who wanted, got signed up for Paintball and High Adventure . . . and a few signed up for Exodus which includes either rock climbing or a creek walk.
Well the bell rang so it's off to bed. We'll post a few pictures tommorow.

Yo Saint Matthew!!
Thank you for an AWESOME Sunday! What an incredible experience to be at Hume when you all arrived in those two HUGE buses! I loved seeing the excitement on your faces as you arrived, knowing you were about to experience an incredible week of spiritual growth and community. I am awed by what we all experienced last night. The worship? WOW, WOW, WOW!! Chris's talk...I was enthtralled from the first moment, and then the opening. What was that!? I was truly transported to the peasant village, although the dudes that were talking through it kept it funny and engaging. "Asthma" was my favorite part! Of course Mandy and Aaron were the stars of the show for me!! Having fun with you guys at dinner, and after the opening and just hanging out made my visit to Hume one that I will never forget. I wish I was there to hear Chris talk tonight and to worship with you. Alas, I'll be holding down the Walnut Creek fort tonight, with a somewhat small group for JACK and JILL with your fellow Hume alums! God is at work there at Hume in an amazing and indescribable way. Know that you are blessed to have this rare experience, and to carry the memory of this week with you always. Pound on Smit all week for me, and give PD and your other counselors lots of love in typical Saint Matthew Youth Group fashion. Love you ALL!
