Monday Night

Today we were divided up into our rec. (recreation) teams. This year’s teams are “Thorlak” (green shirts) and “Ingimar” (blue shirts). This week there are 1000+ students and adults attending Ponderosa Camp. Because of the number of campers from Saint Matthew, (110), we are split among a number of different sub team (28 total). With names such as Blarg, Neald, Olaf and Brad (to name a few). The competition games included Joust Do It, Slippy Reckie, Menneske Bowler and Frisson (goofy names and even goofier rec. games).
Forty of our campers ventured to the High Adventure course (15 more will go tomorrow) and went up the pampa poles (telephone poles), the climbing wall, the ropes course through the trees and the activity that separates the men and women from the boys and girls . . . the screamer. The screamer is a platform forty-two feet up on a rock. Campers are harnessed in and suspended by climbing ropes between two trees. They can face their fears by jumping forward or falling backwards and are caught on belay be a staff member down below. It definitely was high adventure!
